Learn About UVC LED Technology and Designing for Disinfection


Klaran University, by Crystal IS, is an immersive program that gives Product Development and R&D Engineers insights for designing with UVC LEDs. Participants will immediately be able to translate what they've learned into product designs for water and surface disinfection using UVC LEDs, and bring a new set of knowledge and skills to their organization.

Led by experts in the field of UVC LED design and application, this program provides the ideal setting for direct, classroom-style education on UVC LED technology for disinfection.

By participating in Klaran University, you'll learn:

Fundamentals of UVC LEDs (1-Day Program)

Offered Monthly

  • Learn the differences between UVC LEDs and traditional visible LEDs, considerations when choosing a UVC LED for a disinfection application, and more. This includes an optional tour of the Crystal IS crystal growth and device test facilities.

UVC LEDs in Point-of-Use Water Disinfection (2-Day Program)

Offered Quarterly

  • Everything covered in the Fundamentals of UVC LEDs plus design factors associated with using a UVC LED-based reactor for water purification. Attendees also learn how to use tools for estimating the number, power output, and operating conditions of UVC LEDs.

During his tenure with the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Physics Department, Dr. Leo Schowalter co-founded (with Dr. Glen Slack) Crystal IS in 1997. He serves as the company’s CTO.

Rajul Randive

Dr. Rajul Randive designs, builds and tests various prototype applications that use Klaran UVC LEDs. He works closely with customers to develop applications and maps those to engineering requirements that result in a market-ready product.

Kevin Kahn

Dr. Kevin Kahn works closely with customers across Europe to integrate Klaran UVC LEDs into their applications, supporting them with optical simulations and overall product design.

Ben Bryson

Ben Bryson works closely with customers across North America to integrate Klaran UVC LEDs into their applications. Prior to joining Crystal IS, Ben worked with Xylem- a leading water technology company, where he focused on designing to UVDGM, NWRI, NSF and other international standards for UV water disinfection and developing ozone applications for disinfection, flocculation and taste and odor.

What should I bring with me to the on-site classes?

Laptop and notebooks are optional. Notebooks and hard copy materials will be provided.
